1、 Accurate local welding capability

It can precisely control the motion trajectory and welding time of the soldering nozzle through a numerical control program, and only weld the through-hole components such as pins, connectors, and shield pins that need to be welded, completely avoiding surrounding surface mount components, heat-resistant devices, or specific areas. Reduce thermal shock: Due to only local heating, the overall thermal stress and thermal shock on the PCB and surrounding sensitive components (such as plastic connectors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors, precision chips) are significantly reduced, effectively preventing device damage, PCB deformation, or material degradation.

Obtaining high-quality solder joints: During the welding process, the solder nozzle can usually penetrate deep into the bottom of the board, allowing the solder to rise fully along the pins, forming a full and reliable vertical filling solder joint, reducing defects such as solder leakage, virtual soldering, or bridging.

Eliminating tooling fixtures: In most cases, there is no need to design and manufacture complex wave soldering fixtures (masks) to protect surface mount components, saving fixture costs and maintenance work.
Reduce solder consumption: Compared to full board wave soldering, local soldering has a smaller solder tank volume and less oxidation, significantly reducing the amount of solder used and subsequent processing costs.
Simplify the process flow: Allow for selective soldering of through-hole components after completing all SMT reflow soldering, making the production process smoother and more flexible.
5、 Main limitations and considerations
Production efficiency: Compared to wave soldering for large quantities and simple plate shapes, selective welding is sequential spot welding or drag welding, which has a slower overall welding speed and is suitable for key processes in medium to small batch production or large batches.
Initial investment and programming: The equipment investment cost is high, and offline programming or demonstration is required for each product, which requires certain technical requirements for process engineers.
Flux management: spray type precise coating flux is usually used, and good control is required to avoid residual or polluting the surrounding area.
In summary, the core characteristics of PCB soldering process selection are its "precision" and "locality": through precise control of local thermal energy and solder supply, high-quality soldering of through-hole components on complex PCBs is completed with minimal thermal impact.
